Cornus controversa "Variegata" The Wedding Cake Tree

This Cornus controversa "Variegata" is just coming into leaf in spring, the new leaves appear almost yellow as the new soft green of the centre of the leaf is indistinguishable from the cream outer edge. As the leaves mature the difference will be accentuated. This tree grows to an ultimate height of between 15 - 20ft (5 - 7m) and makes a excellent specimen tree for a medium to large garden. The flat heads of of white flowers will open in June and July adding to the beauty of the tree. Plant this tree in any good garden soil in a sunny position to show to its best advantage. After planting keep well watered and mulch in spring with good garden compost or manure. No pruning is needed but to keep the architectural layered shape any intervening branches or upward growing branches can be removed.
