I have no idea why my hair looks like a rat's nest, what the weird banging is, or why I can't sit like a normal human being.

The most difficult thing about house plant care is unlearning all the crap habits you picked up from...somewhere.

Rules are made to be broken, and I break every one, BUT when you're a beginner in the world of indoor horticulture, it's best to learn how to do things 'properly' before you work out what you can file away in a drawer marked 'nah, I'll do my own damn way'.

I know you won't think about what plant you're going to buy before you buy one. I know that even those of you with the intention of buying a Pothos will end up being transfixed by a Stromanthe Triostar, and will bring it home. Will you spend the next six months pandering to its every need? Yes. Will it care? No.

But at least you can say you were warned!

Here are a few things I personally use and recommend (except the humidifier, but it's the one tonnes of plant people swear by). I earn a small commission if you click on one of the links and buy something, BUT if you don't like Amazon (and who can blame you?) hygrometers and moisture metres are found in most garden centres, and grow lights can be purchased from pet and aquatic supply stores.
