Report:
On July 2, 2022 Officer responded to an accident with injuries. Upon arrival officer noticed a blue Toyota Corolla smashed against a tree. Officer also noticed a black car parked on the side of the Corolla. Upon speaking with the driver of the black car I was informed that they pulled up to the accident and the driver, Raven Sanders, got into the backseat of their car.

Officer opened the back door and saw Sanders crying. He asked her whether she was hurt and she said no. I had her get out the car so that the driver of the black car could leave. Sanders stated she was not driving upon being asked and then after further questioning stated she had in fact been driving. She then informed me there were other occupants in the car but they got out and ran however that was found to be incorrect as the passenger side airbag was off and not deployed and the seatbelt was unbuckled and locked in the standard position.

Officer noticed her speech seemed slurred, she was unable to form coherent sentences, and that she had peed herself so I began to suspect she might be under the influence. Her details about what happened were continuously changing, were at times blatantly incorrect, and she at times was not even sure whether she had been driving the car as when I initially spoke to her she stated that someone else had crashed her car. When asked who it was she stated she let someone else drive it and now it was destroyed. When I asked her if the driver of the black car brought her here she stated no and the driver of the vehicle stated they found her here. In addition to this she had trouble making rational decisions as when we arrived on scene she was in the back of a persons car she did not know.

Officer went to speak with my training officer Santos about it and he concurred that she appeared to be under the influence. Officer First Class Santos began questioning her about where she was coming from and about whether she was driving. Sanders stated she was going home to her house at Lakeview but previously stated she was going to pick her sister up. Sanders stated she would take the blame for everything and to leave her little sister out of it. As it again did not make sense due to the passenger side airbag being off and non-deploued she was asked again who was driving the car and Sanders admitted to driving. While standing next to the driver side of the vehicle an open container was seen on the driver side floorboard.

Sanders was asked whether she would voluntarily consent to standard field sobriety and she consented. I walked her over to an empty parking lot to conduct the field sobriety tests and she asked if she passed whether she would be good to go home. I told her yes. She then asked if she failed what would happen and I informed her we would cross that bridge when we got there. Sanders then changed her mind and stated she did not want to consent to field sobriety testing. Officer First Class Santos informed her the tests were voluntary and asked again to confirm whether she wanted to do the tests or not.Sanders again refused the testing and she was then handcuffed, double lock behind the back,

Sanders continued talking to us and then stated while at the bar someone slipped something in her drink. It was not able to be confirmed whether she was telling the truth about this. Sanders was asked how fast she was going down Old Winterville Rd and she asked us how fast we thought she was going. We replied pretty fast and asked her again and she stated she was not going to tell us cause she did not want to get in trouble implying that she was travelling very fast down the roadway.

Sanders was cleared by the hospital and was transported to the Clarke County Jail.
