Direct-LDL-Cholesterol :-
In phase one a unique detergent solubilizes cholesterol from non-LDL- lipoprotein particles. This cholesterol is consumed by cholesterol esterase, 4- aminoantipyrine etc. to generate a colorless end product. In phase two a second detergent in reagent 2 releases cholesterol from the LDL – lipoproteins. This cholesterol reacts with cholesterol esterase, chromogen system etc. to yield a blue purple color complex which can be measured biochromatically at 546/630nm.
The extra LDL cholesterol along with other substance forms plaque. The plaques build up in arteries which is called as Atherosclerosis.
