In this edition of Manned Space we join the crew of Gemini 9 - astronaut Thomas Stafford and astronaut Eugene Cernan - on their three day mission in earth orbit. Gemini 9 was NASA's 13th manned spaceflight and the 7th manned flight of Project Gemini. In this exciting fast paced look at the Gemini XI mission we'll see how unfamiliar the environment of outer space was to these early space farers.

It was during Project Mercury that astronaut Alan Shephard became the first American to travel into space. Soon after Alan Shepard's historic first, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth. The follow on program to Project Mercury was Project Gemini a program that served as a bridge to the Apollo program and helped make the moon landings possible.
