Because Apple and Google take such a large percentage of earnings from sign-ups for paid services through apps downloaded through the Apple and Google app stores, Spotify no longer lets users sign up for Spotify Premium through its mobile apps. As a result, you have to purchase Spotify Premium through the Spotify website. After purchasing Spotify Premium through the website, you'll be able to use all of the benefits of your premium subscription in the Spotify app on Apple and Google devices.

Now let's walk through the steps to sign up for Spotify Premium.

Step 1. Open a web browser, navigate to Spotify.com, and then sign into your Spotify account if prompted. Again, it's no longer possible to sign up for Spotify Premium through the Spotify app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device, and the only way you can sign up for Spotify Premium is through the Spotify website. You'll land on your Spotify home page.

Step 2. Click "Explore Premium" at the top of the screen. You'll land on a screen prompting you to sign up for Spotify Premium.

Step 3. Click "Get Started." The next screen will give you an overview of your Spotify Premium plan. By default you'll be put into the Spotify Premium Individual plan. Click "Change Plan" if you want to choose a different premium plan, such as student or family.

Step 4. Navigate down to the Address section, and then enter your address information.

Step 5. Next, choose whether you want to pay for your Spotify Premium subscription using either credit or debit card, or PayPal. Click "Buy Now" after entering the required information.

The next screen will let your know that you've successfully subscribed to Spotify Premium.
