Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School in Tamworth breeds high quality White Suffolk rams using reproductive technologies and objective measurement. This video documents the production of these rams from selection of the compatible parents through to the final sale of the rams.

Farrer Agricultural High School in Tamworth NSW has a Suffolk Sheep Breeding Program that provides students with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the sheep industry. The program is designed to help students develop a range of skills associated with sheep farming and animal husbandry.

The program is structured around a breeding program of purebred Suffolk sheep. Students are responsible for the management of the flock and for selecting the sire and dam for the program each year. They must also monitor the flock's health and welfare and assess the sheep's growth, condition and performance.

Students also learn to use a range of computer programs to record and manage data associated with the flock and to analyse and interpret the data. They are also exposed to various other topics such as pasture and feed management, sheep handling and shearing, artificial insemination and the genetics of the Suffolk breed.

The program has been running for over 30 years and is an important part of the agricultural education program at the school. It provides students with valuable hands-on experience of the sheep industry and provides an excellent basis for further study in the field. The program has also been successful in producing some of the highest-quality Suffolk sheep in the region.
