Josef Hofmann lived in a time when many artists took a rather liberal approach to the interpretation of the music score. He however was much more consistent and technically very proficient. Some accused him of a rather cold approach, others worshipped him. Compared to Cortot he was much more strict as this Polonaise shows. The registration is from 1922, in his prime, on rolls for the Duo Arte system. Pictures are from Dutch wintertime landscapes nearby. I may add other Hofmann performances in the future.
