Astilbe Deutschland from www.gardensplendor.com is a terrific perennial for partially shaded and lightly shady sites with consistently moist soils. It will grow in deeper shade but does not flower so prolifically. Easy to grow and not troubled by any major pests and diseases (even deer and rabbits leave it alone), it puts on a tremendous show, and is so valuable for brightening up the late spring and early summer scene because it is one of the first astible varieties to flower. Very effective in perennial borders, woodland gardens, shaded town gardens and areas with moist soils. Like other astilbes it looks great when placed in large bold groupings and is especially lovely near water features like reflecting pools, ponds, streams and fountains. Flowering at a height of only 2 foot tall and making a clump that’s about the same wide it is a perfect size for most situations. Makes a great cut flower too.
