Remembering Ed O'Brien 1956-2015
Описание
We here at WRGB announced today the passing of our longtime news anchor
Ed O'Brien. Mr. O'Brien has been the morning anchor here at WRGB for
the past 20 years. "I will of course remember Ed as the consummate
newsman, but more so a man with a great love for life, family and
friends, a great sense of humor and a passion for Saratoga Race track,"
said station general manager Vince Nelson. "Those of us that had the
pleasure of working with Ed will miss his presence, as I'm sure will his
viewers", added Nelson.
Ed was born and raised in Albany and
made his first TV appearance as a child with Freddie Freihofer on WRGB's
Breadtime Stories. He started his professional broadcast career working
for local radio stations as a teenager. In 1991, Ed joined WRGB, where
he would spend the next 24 years. He became the CBS6 morning anchor in
1994.
CBS 6 Anchor Liz Bishop says: "Ed O'Brien was the smartest
newsman I have ever worked with, a detail guy who lived for the big
story and then followed it all the way to its conclusion. And in an
era of big personalities in local news, he still managed to set himself
apart with his trademark gruff exterior that hid this funny, warm,
genuine guy who embraced life. He was a great team player who
generously shared his knowledge and humor. Ed held himself to a very
high standard, and that made all of us around the better for it."
CBS6
Anchor Greg Floyd adds: "Ed was quite simply one of the best broadcast
journalists the Capital Region has ever seen, and he passed his
extensive knowledge on to scores of young journalists " all graduates of
what I like to call the "Ed O'Brien School of News". And even though
Ed was old school, when the internet and social media became a big part
of the business, Ed's Head, a web chronicle of his daily take on life,
was a smash hit. As both a friend and a newsman, Eddie had wit and
charm, intelligence and charisma. Ed had gravitas."
News
Director Steve Richards stated: "We here at CBS6 send our condolences to
Ed's family. We also say goodbye to a dear friend and colleague."
