Almost 20 years ago, I discovered the Comanche series. Novalogic created three games that I played: Comanche 3, Comanche Gold, and Comanche 4.

The Comanche series of games were focused on stealth action helicopter combat. Graphics-wise, Comanche 4 is the best-looking out of the entire series. Novalogic moved away from voxel-based rendering and adapted 3d based rendering and DirectX. I was surprised to see that there was also an endorsement from Nvidia for this game. Comanche 4 not only moves away from voxel, but it is also more arcade than its predecessor, Comanche Gold. The flight controls are much easier to operate, the combat pace is a lot faster, and the damage model is much more forgiving. It now takes multiple missile hits to down the Comanche as opposed to one in Comanche Gold.

Unfortunately, after the release of Comanche 4, Novalogic stopped making new games (save for a couple additions to the Delta Force series) after Comanche 4 and went on to just supporting their old ones. The era of the arcade combat flight sim and Novalogic's reign came to an end. Maybe someday we will see another Tachyon, F-22 Lightning, or Comanche title, but it is not likely.
