Ushpizin (2004) & Why Bad Things Happen to Good People

This was the final class of our 2021 Video Values course at Beth Tfiloh Congregation, Baltimore, MD. It begins by presenting four models for understanding tragedy. We then proceed to watch Ushpizin with an eye toward its response to tragedy: seeing struggle and tough times as a test from Hashem. The movie depicts three tests in ascending difficulty: praying for a miracle, hosting the ushpizin (guests), and staying far away from anger.
