The render distance changes are done to freeze and later unfreeze the ender pearl, allowing instant travel to the second portal spot.

The demo can be played for free by making a new Mojang account at minecraft.net and switching to the new account in the game launcher. No new game download is needed. The demo can also be imitated by creating a new world with the seed -343522682 or "North Carolina" and turning the bonus chest on.
The upper left timer shows elapsed in-game time. It's mostly static because it only updates every time the game is saved. Timing started at 01.100 at first input.
