Many consider If one of the most inspirational poems ever. The poem is addressed to his son John, but some of the advice applies to each of us and some of it doesn't apply. Kipling won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907 at age 41. Sounded out for knighthood and the poet laureatship, he declined both honors. John died in battle in 1915 at age 18.
