Awhile back I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with a Sound City Master One Hundred 100-watt head and its matching Fane-loaded 4x12 speaker cabinet. This is what happened. Crazy loud, crazy fun. Big, raw old-school rock 'n' roll tones for miles and miles. No attenuators or DI load boxes of any kind were used in recording. This is the sound of a classic British-style 100-watt EL34 half-stack at stage volume. A load box was shipped with the amp and is visible in the video, but ultimately it was not used, as the sound of the live amp in the room was infinitely better. The cab was mic'd up with an Audix OM2 dynamic mic up against the speaker, a Cascade Fat Head ribbon several feet back in the room, and a large diaphragm condenser as a room mic about 15 feet away. These were blended and panned to various degrees in the final mix. Did I mention that this was really, really loud? Holy fuck. LOUD.
