The Ford Edge offers plenty of cargo space and legroom, making it attractive to shoppers with families. Now, with the addition of the ST trim and Ford’s turbocharged 4-cylinder, the Edge may appeal to enthusiast shoppers as well.

The ST trim represents the Ford Edge’s big 2019 update. A 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, used in versions of the F-150, Mustang, and Focus RS, delivers 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission to all-wheel drive (AWD). Other Edge trims employ the more utilitarian 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, which makes 245 hp and 275 lb-ft, sent to either front- or optional all-wheel drive via the same 8-speed automatic.

The ST also features a reworked suspension for improved cornering, although this tauter ride doesn’t force the occupants to suffer over rough roads nearly as much as we would have expected. Behind the spacious rear seat, you’ll discover 39 cubic feet of cargo space. That number grows to 73.4 cubic feet when the rear seat is folded—enough space for most bikes to fit without having to remove a wheel.

The Edge SE trim receives a less-than-stellar 4.2-inch touchscreen, but the SEL trim offers an optional 8-inch screen that runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (it’s also standard above the SEL trim). Ford has made Co-Pilot360 standard across all trims of the Edge, providing automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert at no additional cost.
