In May 2026 Big Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeon
(Pseudoscaphirhynchus kaufmanni) was propagated at Nukus Balyk fish hatchery by a pgroup of volunteers and enthusiasts from Russia and Uzbekistan.

In 2020 Nukus Balyk fish hatchery was registerged as the Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeons hatchery by the Republic of Uzbekistan State Committee for Ecology and Environment Protection (registration certificate # 000010, date: 11.05.2020).

Creating an initial brood stock of Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeons (Pseudoscaphirhynchus) is the first step towards their propagation and conservation efforts.
