Adventure Island (Game Boy) first released Feb 1992, developed by Hudson and published by Hudson. The plot is as simple as they come; Master Higgins' girlfriend Tina has been kidnapped by the henchmen of the evil Witch Doctor and our hero goes on a quest to save her. This results in a platformer which is on the one hand rather straightforward while still offering some neat twists on the other.
