At the end of the twenty-first century, archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway discover recurring star maps in ancient Earth cultures and convince the Weyland Corporation to send a scientific expedition to a distant planet where the answer to humanity’s origins may be hidden. Aboard the ship Prometheus, they are joined by the android David, the cold company representative Meredith Vickers, Captain Janek, and a team of specialists, each expecting a different discovery from the mission. But instead of meeting their creators, the humans find dark ruins, traces of a dead civilization, and a biological threat capable of destroying not only the crew, but the very idea of human exceptionalism. Ridley Scott’s science fiction horror film returns the mythology of Alien to its origins, combining space adventure and philosophical questions about faith and the origin of life with a tense story about how dangerous it is to demand answers from a universe that may prove indifferent and hostile.
