Where does the Mississippi River start? In the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota according to this vintage Department of Interior film from the National Archives. See your local state parks under construction in the 1930s, including Itaska Lake State Park and Scenic State Park.

SUMMARY
This film shows Minnesota lakes at the head waters of the Mississippi River. Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) men work in Itasca Lake State Park and in Scenic State Park. Pageants recreate the days of the Indians and backwoodsmen with log cabins, covered wagons, stockades, and Indian wigwams. It includes views of Indians on a reservation, picnickers in a park, and a CCC camp. (ARC ID 11652, local identifier 48.20)
