You see, Fender had a bit of a wood problem in the late sixties: they had oodles and oodles of ash, but it was all quite heavy. To solve this problem, Roger Rossmeisl began hollowing out Telecasters. He routed out the sides of a Tele body from the back, then glued a thin piece of wood onto the back. To the delight of everyone's back muscles, it worked like a charm. It didn't hurt that the Tele Thinline sported Mr. Rossmeisl's signature elegant aesthetic appointments, either. Most importantly, it spoke with a fresh and exciting new voice that set the music world on fire when it launched. This Custom Shop iteration carries all of that tradition within it, and it continues the proud legacy of the Thinline Tele.
