In this video, you're going to learn 35 words to describe different personalities in English!

Have you ever tried to describe someone in English and realized that you don’t know enough words to do it well or only know very general words, like nice, kind, funny, or strong? Don’t get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with these words! But people are complex creatures and to describe someone well enough you need to have a bigger vocabulary, including words that are more specific.

We chose some very commonly used words that will help you expand your vocabulary and feel more confident speaking English!

Pretentious – a person who tries to act like he is more impressive, more successful, and more important than he really is. Similar to: poser, show-off.

A poser – a person who wants to impress other people by the way he dresses or behaves.

A snob – someone who criticizes people, places, and things often, and ignores people who come from a lower social class and have less education.

Picky – extremely careful about choosing or accepting things, hard to please. Synonym: fussy.

High Maintenance – someone who is very hard to please and needs a lot of attention and effort from other people.

Drama queen – a person who has very emotional reactions to everything, acts like things are much worse and much more dramatic than they really are, mainly to attract attention.

Obnoxious - someone whose behavior is extremely unpleasant, offensive, and very annoying to other people.

Pushy - someone who tries too hard to get something or to make someone do something in an unpleasant and annoying way.

Adorable - someone who is very easy to love, sweet, and charming. Similar to: cute. We often say this about children.

Bossy – someone who likes to tell other people what to do and give orders to people.

Tough – someone physically and emotionally strong, able to deal with hardship, and stay strong. Not easily hurt by what people say or do.
Also: a tough cookie.

Moody – a person whose mood often changes unexpectedly. It can also mean someone who is often unhappy or unfriendly, like a moody teenager.

A dork – a person who behaves awkwardly around other people and might have unstylish clothes, hair, etc. Similar to a nerd. He dresses like a nerd.

Nosy – someone who wants to know too much about other people’s personal lives.

Stingy – someone who doesn’t like giving or spending money. The opposite of generous.

Chatty – someone who talks a lot, likes talking.

Gossipy / gossip – a person who often talks about private details of other people’s lives.

Flaky – an unusual, strange person. Off-beat. You can’t rely on this person because they always do something unexpected. Their mind is always somewhere else.

Down-to-earth – someone who is normal in a good way, practical and sensible. This person is easy to talk to and to deal with.

Hilarious – very funny.

Phony – not honest or sincere, someone who tells lies.

A hypocrite – a person who claims to have specific beliefs about what is right, but his behavior disagrees with this belief.

Vain – a person who is too proud of how they look, their abilities or achievements.

Narcissistic – similar to vain. Someone who loves themselves too much, especially how they look.

A slowpoke – a person who does everything very slowly.

Cowardly – someone who’s afraid of a lot of things and can’t do what he/she should do because he/she is too afraid. Or a coward. The opposite of brave.

A rock - a strong person who can be relied on.

Paranoid – someone who without reason thinks that something bad is going to happen or someone is going to harm him or do not like him.

Indecisive – a person who can’t make choices and decisions quickly and confidently.

Easy-going – relaxed person, who is friendly, easy to talk to, and to deal with.

Pushover – someone who is easy to influence and to convince, this person will do almost anything people tell him to do.
