BMW Motorrad continues showing the high customization potential of the R 18. After presenting versions designed by Roland Sands and Blechmann, earlier this week the Bavarian brand revealed yet another differentiated proposal for its cruiser: the R 18 Spirit of Passion, made by the studio British Kingston Custom.

The highlight of this customization designed by Dirk Oehlerking is due to the large front fairing of the bike in art deco style. It covers virtually the entire front part of the bike, leaving only the part of the tire that touches the ground uncovered.

The original direction indicators were replaced by Kellermann items, while the LED headlight was incorporated into the fairing. The original painting of the R 18 was incorporated into this fairing, which below preserves the original fuel tank, as well as the suspensions.


Mechanically, the BMW R 18 Spirit of Passion has not undergone any changes, that is, it preserves the bicylindrical Boxer engine that delivers 1,802 cm³, maximum power of 91 hp at 4,750 rpm and torque of 16.1 kgf.m at 3,000 turns. The transmission is six-speed with final transmission made by cardan shaft.


For Oehlerking, the design process begins long before that of the first sketches. “My motorcycles always convey soul, charm and character. I have a constant flow of images in my mind before I decide which style I want to focus on. After that choice, I make a pencil sketch and keep going until I feel, deep in my heart, that this is exactly what I want ”, comments the artist.
