In this video, we are taking a look at a DNA testing kit from Nebula Genomics, which is a California-based company that provides personal genomics services. You can sequence and analyze your whole genome with Nebula Genomics. Basically, first, you have to buy the kit on their website. Once you get the kit in the mail, you can register it on their website. You don't have to provide personal info, and might be able to keep it somewhat confidential. Next, collect your check cells sample by using a q-tip and then put the sample in an orange capped -tube and send it to the company using the prepaid envelope. Finally, you will receive a notification that your raw data file is ready, as well as the analysis is ready. You have to pay a separate membership fee (though they do have the lifetime option) to have access to the analysis database.
The difference with 23andMe is the following: 23andMe does genotyping (using SNP chips), by telling you about various sites (SNPs) in your genome associated with interesting traits. On the other hand, Nebula Genomics provides a full sequence of your genome, which they obtain using NGS (next-generation based, Illumina array) sequencing. This means you get the complete sequence of your genome.
