Shostakovich is generally associated with serious sounding music, but here is an upbeat symphonic exception. In fact it was eventually denounced by the Communist authorities as not properly reflecting the people of the USSR and was banned for a time. This 1960 Everest recording still sounds fresh more than six decades later.
