If you have installed a new, refilled or aftermarket (3rd party) HP950 951 cartridge (or HP950XL 951XL extra large ink tank) into your #HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Premium (#HP8600 #Premium) printer and you observe a #Cartridge #Problem alert or #error #message on your HP #OfficeJet #Pro #printer then it is possible that the internal PRINTHEAD may have a bent or #damaged contact #pin or pins. When the #HP950 #HP951 (#HP950XL #HP951XL) cartridge is installed these pins make contact with the #Internal #PRINTHEAD. To verify pin condition, remove all 4 ink cartridges and using a flash light, carefully inspect the internal #PRINTHEAD contact #pins for visible #damage.

Each #pin should be protruding outwards as shown. If the pin is bent down, it is possible to gently pry it back up with a small screwdriver. If a pin is broken, then the PRINTHEAD will need to be replaced.

It is also suggested to check and wipe the cartridges electrical contacts. A common cause of the “Cartridge Problem” message is the gold contacts found on an electronic chip on the body of the HP cartridge being obscured with ink residue (dirty ink) or surface damage to the smart chip contacts.

Separately, printer error messages which may signify a PRINTHEAD problem include “Ink Cartridge #Failure”, “#Cartridge #Damaged”, “Printhead #Failure” or “The following cartridges are #not #intended for use in this Printer”.

Additional corrective steps should the error remain:
1. Remove your new cartridge and replace it with the old one.
2. Replace the old cartridge with the new one.
3. Remove the new cartridge.
4. Turn the printer off using its power button.
5. Unplug your printer at the wall, wait 30 seconds, reapply power.
