What is Open or UnsecuredWifi Network ? - Simply, An unsecured or Open Wi-Fi network is any network that does not require you to enter a password or has a Public password to use the network. Open Wi-Fi networks can be found in : Coffee shops, Restaurants, Airports, Hotels or shopping Malls.
Sometimes it may be happen when you need of an internet connection and your own wireless service is down, you may be tempted to connect to any open, unsecured wireless network that your Laptop or smartphone picks up. You should know the risks connecting to the open Wi-Fi networks.
When you connect to an open Wi-Fi network like one at a coffee shop or airport, the network is generally unencrypted, means has no security because you don’t have to enter a password when connecting.
After connecting to such network your unencrypted network traffic is clearly visible to everyone in range. Hackers can monitor what web pages you’re visiting in your laptop or smartphone and what you’re typing into unencrypted web forms, and even see which secured websites you’re connected to. So if you’re connected to your bank’s website, Hackers may know it, and may know what you are doing or typing. This can be done with some easy-to-use tools that allow hackers sitting in coffee shops or on other open Wi-Fi networks to snoop on other people’s browsing sessions and hijack them. Even they may remotely install spyware or malware to your device.
