My story here of this great ship is just the beginning as I leave her history with the coming of the Revolution.....
In 1915, the "Gangut" saw service in the Baltic, on mine laying operations. In returning to Helsinki in October 1915, she played no further part in operations....
In 1918, she was transferred from Helsinki to Kronstadt and from there to Petrograd. She stood idle until 1924/25 when, once a gain she was transferred to Kronstadt and restored to working order.
She was renamed the " October Revolution " on June 27, 1925 .
In 1934-1936 she was taken to the Baltic Shipyard for a refit and modernisation....
During the Soviet-Finnish war , in December 1939, the battleships "October Revolution" and " Marat " fired on Finnish heavy coastal batteries located on the islands near Vyborg. The destroyer Lenin was guarding the battleships from the Gulf of Finland .
During the Great Patriotic War she participated in the defence of Leningrad , was damaged by German artillery fire and aircraft. The commander of the ship in 1941-42 was M. Moskalenko After 1954 she was used as a training ship, until being decommissioned in 1956 and scraped....
Interestingly, her anchors and an anti-aircraft gun were installed on Anchor Square ibn the city of Kronstadt.....
