Will the Circle be Unbroken? - Carter Family Cover - Jez Quayle
Описание
This song is A.P. Carter's (of the original Carter Family) take on this Christian hymn which has become a kind of country music anthem. It's a pretty miserable song about a mother's funeral, but it has a great sing-along chorus. Many artists have recorded it, and some give it the title 'Can the Circle Be Unbroken?' Every year it's sung at the Country Music Hall of Fame (in Nashville, Tennessee) at the conclusion of each medallion induction ceremony, and the song is often sung at the end of broadcasts at the Grand Ole Opry (on WSM). If you'd like to sing and strum along with me, here are the lyrics and chords I play:
(4 bars on G for the intro)
I was (G)standing by my window
On one (C)cold and cloudy (G)day
And I saw the hearse come rolling
For to carry my (D7)mother a(G)way
Will the (G)circle be unbroken
By and (C)by, Lord, by and (G)by?
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, (D7)in the (G)sky
Oh, I (G)told the undertaker
Under(C)taker, please drive (G)slow
For this body you are hauling
Lord, I hate to (D7)see her (G)go
Will the (G)circle be unbroken
By and (C)by, Lord, by and (G)by?
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, (D7)in the (G)sky
I— (G)followed close behind her
Tried to (C)hold up and be (G)brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her (D7)in the (G)grave
Will the (G)circle be unbroken
By and (C)by, Lord, by and (G)by?
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, (D7)in the (G)sky
Went back (G)home, Lord. My home was lonesome
Since my (C)mother she was (G)gone
All my brothers, ‘n’ sisters crying
What a home so (D7)sad and (G)‘lone
Will the (G)circle be unbroken
By and (C)by, Lord, by and (G)by?
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, (D7)in the (G)sky
