At the end of World War 2, there was a German Luftwaffe General who was brought to an execution post/pole for his war crimes. He was sentenced to death for being involved in the aerial bombardment of Belgrade, and he was a very senior member of the German Air Force. He was even given orders during the Battle of Stalingrad to supply by air the German Sixth Army. But this failed, and at the end of the war he was executed in the very city where he inflicted a huge amount of terror.
