In this video I show you how to select pups or suckers to propagate bananas from. I also show you how to remove a pup or sucker or give you tips on potting up and survival. I also tell you to use a clean shovel but complete the demonstration using a dirty spade and the propagation is still successful.

Are some banana suckers or shoots better than others for propagation?
Research has shown that there are multiple varieties of banana suckers, water shoots have broad leaves and sword suckers are narrow and sword like. Both with be effective as plants to start a new banana clump from. Sword suckers are recognized as better fruiting plants but both with produce new suckers and these will include new sword suckers. If you propagate from water suckers you are allowing the original parent clump to continue to be high yielding and you can focus on keeping sword suckers once they shoot from the new plant.
